Universal Assembly Unit has now disassembled (2013-2020). Special thanks to our collaborators and commissioners who have come with us on our journey over the years. Feel free to get in touch about past projects.
For LCO's concert with Rival Consoles and Claire Singer in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, we transformed the stage with a giant infinity mirror spanning 12 metres across which reflected live audio-reactive visuals into a portal of light. The visuals responded to the monolithic work 'Rushes' by Michael Gordon, an hour-long wall of sound made up of pulsating, hypnotic, and slowly shifting patterns, performed by an instrumental ensemble of seven bassoon players. The frequency and density of the music were mapped onto the length of the wall, so the audience could perceive the shifting movements of sound as the visable accumulation of particles building up and dissipating over time.
For Claire Singer's organ piece, the players were hidden behind the mirrored installation, so the audience began by looking at their own reflection, and as the hall lights darkened, the players emerged as a haunting apparition.
