Loop>>60Hz: Transmissions From The Drone Orchestra

Drone costume design for an audio-visual collaboration between the Velvet Underground's John Cale and architectural futurist Liam Young at the Barbican. These costumes explored how we might relate to drones beyond their function as infrastructural objects and military technologies, and instead as cultural objects that have the potential to form intimate and idiosyncratic relationships with the public.

Drones were personalised with everyday objects such as artificial nails, keychains, stuffed toys, feathers and electroluminescent tape. Each was designed with a unique character and behaviour in mind. Some held speakers to amplify their own sound as musical performers, and others were self illuminated or delivered special effects such as glitter bombs and contrails of smoke.
